Custom Build Update | Week 12

WEEK 12?! What is that? It definitely doesn’t seem like it’s been that long in some ways, and in others it seems like it’s taking forever. It’s pretty crazy the changes we see almost on a daily basis now!

In the past 2 months, we’ve started framing, had to fire a framer, hire a new one, find more contractors, make interior decisions, (see the kitchen design here!!) got the framing fixed and done, poured a driveway, got the windows and doors in, siding on and roof done. Whew!

It’s been a little chaotic and also a little boring to look at for awhile now. But soon we’ll be ordering interior details and the real fun will begin!

This custom building thing has definitely been an interesting and eyeopening process for us. Austin less so (let’s be real – he’s brilliant and knows everything! 😂) but it’s been really fun at the same time and I’m so excited for the day when all of this is second nature and we don’t even think twice about it!

For example, I’m learning the additional costs to countertop installation based on what kind of sink you choose and how that affects the warranty of the stone. On a more exciting note, I recently learned that Kohler makes a farmhouse sink with a shortened apron for use with stock (or existing) cabinets. (GAME CHANGER for this girl on a stock-cabinet budget!) Another great thing I learned about are the advancements in marble sealants. Cause this girl LOVES marble. Like a LOT.

I really never know what I’ll be researching from one day to the next and I’m thankful we’ve flipped a couple houses before this so I’m not totally clueless and that Austin works with this stuff every single day and can answer all my questions! 😂

Hudson thought it was absolutely amazing that all our wood had Daddy’s name on it. 😂
So crazy to see all the material needed to build a house – laying all on the ground!
That’s a lot of screws ya’ll!
Studs upon studs. (Just like at my house!) 😉
Beginning of framing!
Gables! My favorite feature of the exterior!
$70 door + waaaay more money than that in windows. Read the $70 door story here.
I had some concerns about the roof pitch – the blueprint designer made it steeper than we were planning, but it turned out just fine! Such a relief to see it in person to make sure!
Seriously never been more excited in my life to see house wrap!! The difference between this and the above is what happened while we were on vacation! It was also a huge relief to get those doors and windows in!
Wouldn’t mind those faces welcoming me into my new home every day 🙂 🙂 🙂
The boys finally got to walk around inside for the first time! Thankful our new framer cleaned up inside at least. (Austin’s project this week is to clean up the mess outside!)
The original framer didn’t line this doorway up with my bathroom window and it was really bothering me. It’s such a small detail, but especially seeing it fixed and lined up correctly, it makes such a huge difference! Symmetry ya’ll!
Interior door sample. And Felix at the kitchen island! I CANNOT wait to stand there to do dishes or roll dough AND watch all the boys playing together at the same time. That’s literally my greatest dream in life at the moment. 😂
She’s so beautiful!
The guys doing siding had to mad dash to pack up when that crazy storm came in last week. They finished up the next morning! We love them for being so efficient! (That’s our love language at the moment!)
Roof – Check! Siding – Check! All we need now is a sidewalk, porch, posts and paint!

So up next during the next couple of weeks will be some plumbing,(including the gas line to my stove – very important feature to me!) electrical is starting and we’re trying to nail down our HVAC. We’re hoping those things only take 2-3 weeks so we can get going on insulation and drywall. From there, this thing is going to FLY and it’s equally terrifying and totally exciting all at the same time!

A lot of you have asked how you can be praying for us during this season and I cannot convey how grateful my heart is to all of you for being so encouraging and supportive during this season of our lives! The only thing I’m really concerned about at this point is selling our current home and the timing lining up with moving into this one. I really don’t want to pay two mortgages and selling a home in the middle of winter is not ideal. We would LOVE for your prayers to be for a wonderful buyer for our current home – ready to close in December or January!
